Senior Finance Officer


Salary range £24,000 to £33,000 per annum (depending on experience)

The Beatson Institute, a Cancer Research UK core funded research institute and one of Europe's leading cancer research centres, is looking for a Senior Finance Officer to support the Institute's busy Finance function.

The successful candidate will work as part of a small Finance team – currently Head of Finance, Systems Accountant, Grants and Finance Manager and 3 FTE Finance Officers – to support the ongoing development of the Finance function. This will include involvement in management accounts preparation, VAT returns, data validation, grant administration, budgeting and budget holder engagement. There will also be opportunities to participate in, or lead, Finance projects offering your ideas to improve our Finance service.

The Institute has income of c£29m – £15m comes from CRUK through its core grant, with the remainder from a mixture of grants, research contracts with pharmaceutical companies and the provision of research services. It employs c330 staff comprising academic research scientists, research services support staff and administration support. In addition, the Institute also supports about 40 PhD students and 50 associated research staff.

Candidates will ideally have a relevant finance qualification, preferably with some Finance experience, although training will be provided for graduates who can demonstrate a real willingness to learn. To succeed in this role you will need to be very well organised, with excellent IT and communication skills.
