| Next phase for cancer research in Glasgow |
|
The Beatson Institute for Cancer Research, directed by Professor
Karen Vousden, is at the heart of basic and translational cancer
research in Glasgow. Its recent move to a new £15 million building
marks a major milestone in the development of the city as an
international centre for cancer research. Refurbishment of the laboratory space vacated by the Institute, and funded by the University of Glasgow, will begin shortly and once completed, the complex will form the Glasgow Centre for Cancer Research (GCCR), with Professor Vousden as its first scientific Director and Professor Jim Cassidy, Head of the Division of Cancer Sciences and Molecular Pathology at Glasgow University providing the clinical leadership. Supporting in excess of 400 basic and clinical cancer researchers, the GCCR will bring together world-class scientists in an environment that provides leading-edge facilities and unparalleled opportunities for synergy. The mission of the Centre will be to develop a coordinated strategy for cancer research in Glasgow. |
