Registration The registration fee for the workshop is £350, which includes 2 nights accommodation at Queen Margaret Halls of Residence, catering during the workshop and transport to and from the Beatson Institute (airport transfers are not included). The workshop dinner will be held at The Bothy restaurant in the West End of Glasgow on Sunday 1 September. Supper on Monday 2 will be at the Beatson Institute and the cost of both meals is included in the registration fee. Commercial delegates are welcome at a registration fee of £500, which includes the addition of your company logo to our website and programme. Registration will take place from 1400 on Sunday 1 September at the Beatson Institute. The first session will commence at 1500. The registration deadline is Friday 2 August 2013. Venue The workshop will be held in the Robertson Trust Lecture Theatre, Beatson Institute for Cancer Research. Delegate accommodation will be at Queen Margaret Halls of Residence, University of Glasgow. Travel Information The Beatson Institute for Cancer Research is located on the Garscube Estate, Bearsden, North West of Glasgow. Please note that there are two Beatsons in Glasgow - our research institute in Bearsden and the hospital at Gartnavel (the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre). For the duration of the workshop, a coach will be provided between the venue and the accommodation. However, delegates must make their own arrangements for transfer between train stations/airports and the Beatson Institute. Please be aware that most public buses do not give change and you will therefore be expected to have the exact fare when you get on the bus (except the airport bus, which gives change). Train tickets can be bought in the rail station or on the train where ticket offices don't exist on the platform. For cheaper trips to the West End of Glasgow we suggust using the private taxi company Westend Radio Cars (0141 954 7070). Ask the taxi driver to take you to the Beatson Institute near the Vet School off Switchback Road. Airport - Beatson InstituteThe closest airport is Glasgow International Airport. However, you may also consider travelling to either Prestwick or Edinburgh Airport. Both are connected to Glasgow by train or bus and the journey takes approximately 1 hour.Glasgow International airport Travelling by taxi from Glasgow International Airport to the Beatson Institute takes approximately 20 minutes and costs about £20-25. There are taxi stands outside the airport terminal. If you prefer travelling by public transport, bus stops are located in front of the terminal building. The GlasgowFlyer 500 Arriva bus service to the city centre runs every 10 minutes between 6am and 10pm and less frequently through the night. The journey is 30 minutes long and costs £3.30 for a single student fare and £5.50 for a student open return. Get off the bus at Central Station or Queen Street Train Station and catch the train to Westerton as described below. Prestwick Airport Prestwick airport has its own train station that is accessible from the airport via a covered walkway. Trains operate every half an hour from Glasgow Central Station between 6am and 11pm and cost £6.35. If you arrive after 11pm you might want to pre-book bus tickets for the X99/X100 Airport Express bus service. The bus will take you to Buchanan Bus Station, which is close to Queen Street Station. From Central Station or Queen Street Station catch the train to Westerton as described below. Edinburgh Airport Catch the Airlink bus 100 from Edinburgh Airport. The buses run every 10 minutes between 7am and midnight. The journey costs £3.50 one-way or £6 return. Get off the Airlink bus at "Maybury", cross the road and change to the citylink bus 900 going to Glasgow from the bus station on the opposite side of the street. Buses run every 15 minutes during the day, cost £6.30 and the journey to the final destination, Buchanan Bus Station takes about an hour. Glasgow Queen Street Train Station is around the corner from the bus station (see map). Train Station - Beatson InstituteIf you are travelling to Glasgow by train you will arrive at Central Station or Queen Street Station. Both stations are located in the city centre and you can continue your journey to the Beatson by public transport or taxi. A taxi from Central Station or Queen Street Station costs approximately £10-12 and the journey time is around 20 minutes.Otherwise, you can take a train from Central Station or Queen Street Station to Westerton. The journey takes 15-20 minutes and a single ticket is £2.60. The Beatson Institute is 10 minutes walking distance from Westerton. The fastest way to walk is indicated on the map above. Please be aware that you have to follow a little path through the woods. |
