Congratulations to the joint winners of this year's JP Award, Kristal Kaan and Maren Stindt.
The award panel members agreed unanimously that both Kristal and Maren deserved to receive this prize for the work they have been doing and for their excellent presentations. They were also very impressed with all of the other student talks.
Maren, from Karen Vousden's group, has been studying the regulation of wild-type and mutant p53 activity, while Kristal in Frank Kozielski's lab has been using structural biology techniques to show how a molecular motor goes into 'energy saving mode'. All third year PhD students at the Beatson are eligible for this Award, named after Dr John Paul, the founding Director of the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research. Candidates prepare a progress report on their work, and give a talk to staff and other students. |
