Prof Owen Sansom, Dr Leo Carlin
Starting Salary from £31,604 to £41,929 (Depending on experience) plus relocation allowance and sponsorship and fees for a Skilled Workers Visa where applicable.
Initial 3-year fixed term contract.
This is an exciting research opportunity to join the laboratories of Prof Owen Sansom and Dr Leo Carlin as part of a team of scientists (including Dr Tom Bird at the Institute and Prof Derek Mann at Newcastle University) interrogating the immune response to liver cancer. The tumour immune microenvironment is a key factor in patient treatment response. The successful applicant will use state-of-the-art techniques in cancer immunology (large multichannel panel flow cytometry and analysis, live cell and tissue imaging, 3D multiplexed immunofluorescence, RNAseq...) to investigate the interplay between tumour promoting and tumour antagonistic immune cell activity in hepatocellular carcinoma using our highly patient relevant mouse models. We already have a large amount of important and exciting data in this area so now is a key time to join a project with a lot of momentum. Importantly, this will also feed into clinical translational activities taking place within our team.
Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, be driven by scientific curiosity, and have an excellent publication record for their career stage and scientific background. Ideally the successful candidate would have a strong track record in immunology and a deep understanding of the associated experimental methodologies. Experience with in vivo models of cancer and/or inflammation and infection would be an advantage.
The Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute is committed to increase the number of female scientists at this level and encourages female applicants to apply. We have a highly attractive, innovative maternity policy, which includes providing a postdoc with support and funding so that their projects can continue during their maternity leave.
