Facilities Maintenance Technician

Salary range - £25,000 to £34,500 (depending on experience)

Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres and supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies. The Beatson Institute for Cancer research occupies three highly serviced buildings on the University of Glasgow’s Garscube Estate. The three buildings are supported by a mix of in-house resources and third-party service providers.

We are seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to work as part of a small Facilities team delivering a range of maintenance activities in support of our scientific research. The team is underpinned by four key values, Safety, Respect, Reliability and Teamwork which we would expect the appointed individual to adhere to whilst carrying out their duties.

Essential Experience/Qualities

  • Experience of building services maintenance (mechanical/electrical bias)
  • Experience of working with/controlling sub-contractors
  • Working as part of a small maintenance team
  • A good knowledge of safe working practices appropriate to the role.
  •  IT Literate
  • Flexible and proactive attitude
  • General trade experience who can deal with a wide range of building services issues.
  • Works well as part of a team or as an individual

Desirable

  • Experienced with Trend Building Management Systems
  • Experience of plumbing and/or steam plant operation and maintenance

Duties

  • To carry out planned and reactive maintenance as part of a small team within the BICR and associated buildings.
  • To supervise and control a range of specialist contractors
  • To carry out a range of hands-on maintenance tasks including plumbing, minor electrical and building fabric repairs.
  • To participate in out of hours support for the institute as required, overtime allowance will be paid
  • Working with help desk tickets from Building Management System
